According to the announcement from the city, Stamford was one of more than 200 cities with populations between 100,000 and 350,000 analyzed for the report, which utilized five main categories in determining ranking: Economic Potential, Business Friendliness, Human Capital and lifestyle, Cost Effectiveness, and Connectivity.

In the past year, several businesses have elected to relocate to Stamford, including leading global manufacturer ITT Inc., Tomo Networks, Digital Currency Group, Webster Bank, GE Appliances, and Philip Morris International.
